This letter from Harley Cathell to me in 1998 shows the amount of effort that he went to in tracing the Eastern Shore and West Virginia. At his own expense, he published Eastern Shore Roots-The Descendents of James Cathell in 2000.

Harley Cathell, 78, of Blue Springs, MO, died April 1, 2005, at his home. Services are April 4, at the Chapel at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley, MO. Burial in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Harley was born September 8, 1926, in Morgantown, WV, the son of Theodore and Hazel (Price) Cathell. He was a Navy Veteran of WW II, and an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Harley worked at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, retiring as an inspector in 1992. He was united in marriage to Bernice Eft, June 14, 1955. He was preceded in death by sisters, Charlotte E. Boatwright and Delia M. Moran, and his brother, Richard Cash. He is survived by daughter, Kathleen Cathell and a son, Ward Cathell, both of Harrisonville; and a sister, Shirley E. Errata

Pg 84-The ship Platt was stationed on in the Civil War, U.S.S. Aries, was a screw propelled gunboat, not a side wheeler.

Harley Cathell quotes Platt M. Cathell in a Civil War pension application as stating "These diabetes are not caused by my vicious ways". This leads one to conclude that Platt Cathell had diabetes and vicious ways, both incorrect. The statement in the application reads "These disabilities are not caused by my vicious habits" and was a standard affirmation each pension applicant had to make stating that the listed disabilities were not caused by drinking, carousing and so forth.

Pg 127-The first child of Platt and Sarah Cathell was James Mitchell Cathell, not James William Cathell, source of correct middle name is his death certificate

Pg 128 Gladys Emma Sinclair Cathell's father was Benonia (not Bossonia) Sinclair. Her mother was Caroline Carrico Sinclair, not Carreco
Catherine Cathell should be Catheline Cathell
Dorothy Virgina Bernard should be Dorothy Eleanor Bernard
Her mother was Mary Edna Custer, not Custard
Carl Mitchell Cathell, Jr. was born in March 1952, not 1926
David Wayne Cathell is a son of Carl M. Cathell, Sr, not a brother as listed
