Information on her marriage license has some interesting facets. Platt Cathell clearly records her birthdate as August , 1862, the same listed on her tombstone. The birth year of 1856 inferred on the marriage certificate is unlikely . The bride's name is listed as Ginia, possibly Jane Elizabeth Cathell was commonly called "Ginny" or "Janey" and this was the minister's guess at her given name? Another interesting fact of this marriage certificate is her place of birth being listed as Cumberland, Maryland. This place of birth is possible as Platt Cathell was reported as working near Cumberland in Piedmont, West Virginia for a period of time during his career on the B & O Railroad. Also, sometimes these types of records were rewritten after the fact and errors were made. Apparently, Jane Elizabeth Cathell used Elizabeth and not Jane as her given name as the death certificate of her husband in 1939 lists him as the widower of Elizabeth Cathell. The name Jane was perhaps derived from her paternal grandmother, Jane Huvington Cathell, born on the Eastern Shore of Maryland or nearby Delaware.
